Hämelschenburg Palace: inner courtyard

Hämelschenburg Palace is a jewel of North German architecture and is fully preserved with its church, farm buildings, park and inventory.

Guided tours take place from April to October. The unique architectural and artistic history is explained and the eventful history of a Lower Saxon noble family is authentically presented.

The church in Hämelschenburg is the first free-standing Protestant church building.

The manor belonging to the castle has been owned by the von Klencke family since 1437 and is managed according to the principle of sustainability.

The café with beer garden in the former farmyard with a view of the magnificent south façade of the castle and the museum shop invite you to linger. The premises of the café are suitable for weddings as well as family and company celebrations of all kinds. The prestigious Charlottensaal in the castle is furnished with baroque furniture and paintings and can be hired for civil weddings.

An idyllic footpath leads through the garden, along the pastures of the award-winning Langels Trakehner stud farm to the soap boiler in the garden house and the mill with a painter’s studio and a water wheel. On the mill island there is a wooden manufactory for garden decorations, farmyard and nativity figures as well as a hydroelectric power station. Hämelschenburg is part of a network of hiking and cycling trails.
